How To Get Rid of Cystic Acne
How To Get Rid Of Cystic Acne Now
Cystic acne is the most serious form of acne a person can have. If you’ve experienced cystic acne, you know full well the discomfort, embarrassment, and long-term consequences it can have. If cystic acne goes untreated, it can leave you with large, permanent scars and a lifetime of emotional pain.
Cystic acne differs from regular breakouts in that the infection that causes it is lodged deep underneath the skin. This causes large cysts or nodules to appear on the surface of the skin. Trying to pop or squeeze these cysts is even worse than doing so with a regular whitehead. Since the infection itself never actually rises to the surface of your skin, attempting to pop a cyst only pushes the infection deeper still. This can lead to prolonged breakouts, painful inflammation, redness, and heavy scarring.
If you’re afflicted with a severe case of cystic acne, the absolute worst thing you can do is delay treatment. The old adage, "time cures all" doesn’t even fully apply to mild or moderate acne, let alone a full-blown case of severe cystic acne.
A dermatologist will likely prescribe Accutane for serious cases, especially if you’ve already tried a number of antibiotics without success. This was certainly the case with me. I had tried more medications than I care to remember, all with little or no results. I was also reluctant to try using Accutane, given all the side effects and risks associated with it.
Looking back, my fears weren’t unfounded. While on Accutane, I experienced regular nosebleeds, fatigue, joint pains, and cracked, bloodied lips, among other things. Not to mention the regular blood testing I had to endure. Accutane can compromise your liver; you need to submit to regular blood tests to make sure that it’s functioning normally throughout treatment. And, needless to say, you can’t drink alcohol while you’re using Accutane.
The side effects weren’t the worst part, though, and neither were the blood tests. The worst part was that my acne didn’t go away. There was some improvement, sure, but nothing to write home about. My skin wasn’t clear, and cysts still rose to the surface with too much regularity.
At that point, I was ready to give up completely. Accutane was the "super-drug" that was supposed to be the cure-all I was so desperate for, and even that had failed to get rid of my acne. Then, in a last-ditch effort, I picked up a relatively new non-prescription acne fighting medication. Only a couple of weeks after I started using it, my face began to clear. The redness in my skin faded, and my whiteheads and blackheads disappeared. What shocked me most was that even the larger, more serious cysts were beginning to shrink, and after another month of use, they were gone completely.
I’d wasted all that time with Accutane and other antibiotics, and in the end, it was a simple, non-prescription medication that cleared up even my most severe acne breakouts.
Whether you choose to try prescription drugs or over-the-counter medication, the most important thing to do with cystic acne is act. Don’t sit around waiting for it to go away; that’s the worst thing you could do, and it could cost you dearly in the future.
